Profound story about a love that transcends time.
Blurb:
3* – I liked it. Across Eternity by Aris Whittier answers the question if soulmates exist and can their love transcend time? A good book for romantics at heart.
Synopsis from Goodreads:
“Logan Richards is doubly blessed. Not only is he a genius but he has a rare gift, he remembers things and not just from this life but all his lifetimes. He lives a life of wealth and luxury and has never lacked any material possession. There has never been an obstacle his intellect couldn’t overcome. But Logan has a problem: every night he dreams of the same woman, a woman he has dreamt of all his life. He knows she is real and he is determined to find her and convince her she belongs with him, forever.
Amber Lewis, a waitress for a five-star restaurant in Dana Point, California, is overworked and stressed. Her sister’s death has left her weary and wondering if there’s something more to life than mere existence. Then, one evening while working she meets Logan Richards, a chivalrous man who feels deeply familiar.
Fate has brought them together, but will their growing love prove strong enough to resist the forces that could pull them apart?
My Thoughts:
Do you believe in a soulmate? I do, I believe my husband is mine. He completes my heart and I truly would feel lost without him. What will happen when one of us dies? Will we meet again someday in Heaven or in another life?
Across Eternity answers these questions in a profound story about how deep a love can be. I was drawn to Logan and Amber’s story and want to believe that their love can last through many lifetimes. The story starts in the present day with Logan’s desperate need to meet the woman who has just crossed the street in front of his car. He knows it’s the woman from his dreams and he must meet her.
The author gave us periodic flashbacks of Logan and Amber’s past life and how the last time they saw each other, Logan made a promise to Amber that not even death could make him forget. The flashbacks helped to develop the character’s backstory and I wish there were more details from their past to really demonstrate the purity and depth of their love. I felt like Logan told me in so many words how much he loved Amber but wanted more in their development and backstory.
Logan was a charming and interesting character. A handsome, genius billionaire who doted on his girlfriend and tried to make all her wishes come true lifetime after lifetime, what girl wouldn’t fall for that? He has his quirks and secrets though which made for some very unique twists in the book. Amber has had a hard life for such a young woman. She lost her sister, her roommate and best friend, to cancer and was her caregiver before her sister’s death. Her experience has made her question her life and the afterlife, will she ever see or feel her sister again? Amber has reservations when the handsome stranger enters her life and tries to sweep her off her feet. How can she trust someone she hardly knows? Yet she finds him strangely familiar, should she trust her heart?
Overall, I enjoyed the twists and turns in the story that reminds me of The Time Traveler’s Wife. This was an enjoyable and easy read with thought-provoking notions, bringing up questions about the afterlife and how long can true love really last. If you’re a romantic at heart, you might enjoy this book.

Favorite Quotes:
“When you walked away it felt like you were taking a piece of me with you. Those words would be his safety anchor. When he felt her drifting, he would know deep down she felt a connection between them. If there was a connection he knew he would be able to help her remember.” (page 48, location 529-531)
[Amber to Logan]: “Why do you like to watch the sun rise and set?” He watched the setting sun as it sent bursts of color across the sky as he thought about the question. “Because what we choose to do between the two is entirely up to us. I find it amazing that we’re all given the exact same amount of time but what differs is how we utilize it. The rising sun holds promise and is nothing more than a new opportunity for growth and discovery. It’s a new start and anything can happen during those hours.” “And the setting sun?” “The setting sun allows us to take a deep breath and bask in all the growth we’ve done throughout the day.” (pages 168-169, location 1861-1867)
Are you a romantic at heart? Do you believe in soulmates? Have you read Across Eternity or The Time Traveler’s Wife? I’d love to hear your thoughts. As always, happy reading!
My husband is absolutely my soulmate! This sounds like an interesting read, thanks for sharing!
You’re welcome Allison, glad you found your soulmate too! 🙂
I am sooooooo not a romantic, although I do like when my husband does romantic things for me and shows he cares! 🙂
I enjoyed Time Traveler’s Wife, but not the movie. Isn’t that always the case? 🙂
For me it is, which is why I hardly ever do both read the book and watch the movie. I’m normally disappointed then in one of them.
Looks great! I need to read more!
I love to read. When I was working, I had no energy for anything else so crashed into bed after kids were in bed to read. Since I am staying home, I can better pace my energy levels but now have less time to read. I need to get back to it! Devil in the White City is our book club choice and although it’s great, its got tiny print and is long!
Sounds like a good book to read and I’m always looking for new books to download on my Kindle. Thank you for sharing.
Let me know what you think if you give it a try.
