Synopsis from Goodreads:

“Motherhood is the toughest – and funniest – job you’ll ever love. Raising kids is hard work. The pay sucks, your boss is a tyrant, and the working conditions are pitiful – you can’t even take a bathroom break without being interrupted with another outrageous demand. Hasn’t every mother said it before? “I just want to pee alone!” I Just Want to Pee Alone is a collection of hilarious essays from 37 of the most kick ass mom bloggers on the web. Including: People I Want to Punch in the Throat, Insane in the Mom-Brain, The Divine Secrets of a Domestic Diva, Baby Sideburns, and Rants From Mommyland. Read hysterical essays like: Embarrassment, Thy Name is Motherhood A Pinterest-Perfect Mom, I am Not And Then There was that Time a Priest Called Me a Terrible Mother So She Thought She Could Cut Off My Stroller”

My Thoughts:

I am a big fan of The Dose of Reality Girls so when they said they had an essay in a book coming out, I knew I had to check it out. Then I saw the title “I Just Want to Pee Alone” and as a mom of 3 boys, I laughed out loud and shouted “hell, yeah!” the moment I read it. You moms out there know exactly what it feels like to lose all sense of humility and privacy the minute the doctor confirms you’re pregnant…and your life and bathroom company may never be the same.

If you’re a mom or a mom-to-be, this is a hilarious collection of short stories about motherhood. Each mom blogger brings a very dynamic, honest, heartfelt and downright funny moments of motherhood. From the challenges of sleepless nights with a newborn, the constant battle with a teenager keeping their room clean, to becoming their mothers, these moms have covered it all, the good, the bad and the ugly. Things you might not have ever thought would happen to you…until it does.

I think this would make a great gift for any mom or mom-to-be with a sense of humor. Or perhaps for a woman who has not decided whether to have kids, this book could very well be birth control. It will certainly stir up interesting conversations!

On a personal level, as little guys, my boys served as our personal bathroom valets. Whenever a little one wandered in with me, he would insist on providing me reading material from the magazine rack on the floor. Really no, that’s ok honey, didn’t quite suffice to convince him. Recently at the pool, the youngest crawled under the bathroom stall we were in and almost into the next one before I got his little leg. Luckily, it was just his older brother he was invading, but can you imagine had it been another woman? Those are my stories and they are tame compared to the stories in this book but it’s worth a good laugh! My embarrassing labor and delivery stories will have to be for another day.

Favorite Quotes:

“I hope that other people don’t find my house as depressing as I imagine it must be. As for me, I have become reluctantly accepting of the chaos. I make this sacrifice on the uncompromisingly cheery altar of childhood.” – Alicia of Naps Happen in her essay “The Treachery of Toys” (page 58, location 952-953)

“And I too have been bamboozled by a tyrannical toddler with the ego of Charlie Sheen and the temper of The Hulk.” – Johi of Confessions of a Corn Fed Girl in her essay “What You Mock, You Become” (page 61, location 1007-1008)

“They love me as only little boys can, which is to say completely, passionately, competitively and sometimes irrationally. I carried them inside my body and they are a part of me forever. They occassionally prove this by trying to go back in there. But, of course, neither one will ask for directions.” – Suzanne of Toulouse & Tonic in her essay “A Stranger in the Land of Twigs and Berries” (page 88, location 1369-1371)

If you’re a mom, do you have a story, embarrassing or otherwise to share? I’d love to hear your thoughts. As always, happy reading!

    1. Yes, I haven’t laughed that hard while reading in awhile! I had to share some of the stories with my husband, some of which he wished I hadn’t….so funny!

    1. You really have entertained and made moms laugh at stories we can all relate to. We all need some humor in our lives and I really hope other moms pick it up. It’s a fast and fun read!

  1. You had me at “Pee Alone”. As a mother of 4 boys, I look forward to the day I can go to the bathroom without someone having a personal emergency the minute the door closes. I LOVE hearing from other mamas.

    1. Hiya Missy. lol, 4 boys? And I thought I was busy. I absolutely love the tough little guy in your profile picture, what a doll! And oh I know what you mean, everything is an emergency. My husband started asking the kids “Where’s the blood?” In other word, no blood, no emergency. However, it backfired when kid stepped on my foot once and I reacted in pain and the kid asked me “where’s the blood?”…turkeys 🙂

      1. I can’t claim the little guy in the photo. He’s uncredited 😉 Yes 4 boys. The 5 year old keeps me busier than the other three put together. We also ask “Are you beeding? Any bones broken?” Lol

    1. You are very welcome. Thanks for the compliment on my blog design. I’m still working on it and doing it myself piece by piece as I learn. I really want Melissa Culbertson’s Blog Design for Dummies book, I think that will help me out greatly! I appreciate you stopping by Stacey and look forward to hearing from you again soon.

    1. Thanks, glad to do it. I read it awhile ago but some of those stories still stick in my head and make me laugh. The funniest book I’ve read in a long time! You all are awesome!

    1. It is funny, even writing the review last night, I was still laughing. And some of the stories? Well, let’s just say they are quite memorable. One of the few books I will re-read to get a good belly laugh!

  2. Thanks so much for sharing Tanya. It sounds like a lovely book!
