Bookmark to Blog’s 2013 Monthly Keyword Challenge

I have enjoyed taking the Goodreads Challenge and my goal was to read 50 books this year. For 2013, I thought I would join Bookmark to Blog’s Monthly Keyword Reading Challenge and Sarah Reads Too Much-Back to the Classics Challenge . I thought it would be a fun way to choose the books to read based on the keyword in the title and interact with others taking the challenge as well.

So stay tuned to my page for my progress and link up yourself at Bookmark to Blog to join the Keyword challenge.

Here are the Challenge Guidelines and keywords:

GUIDELINES

* The title you choose can be a variation on one of the key words. For example- your title could include the word ‘snowing’ or ‘snowflake’ even though the key word is ‘snow.’

*Key words can be tweaked. For example- You could read “Cinder” or “Ashes” for the key word ‘Fire’ and that would be just fine. If the key word is ‘family’ then your title could include the word ‘sister’ or ‘mother.’If the key word is ‘food’ then your title could include the word ‘cake.’

* Link up below to participate and add additional links any time you post about the challenge or post about a book you read for the challenge.

    1. yay! I am excited that you joined in the challenges. what will you read for January? I will be reading Dantes Inferno to fulfill fire for both challenges. I look forward to reading your reviews as we go through the challenges.

    1. Thanks for stopping by Fawn and sharing the challenge info with your friend. I like the Goodreads challenge too since you can set your own # of books to read. My son is winning the family race though, already completed his goal. My goal was 50 and I’ve read 30 so far. But I’ve enjoyed reading more this year, my little free escape from reali and into another world, place or time. I appreciate you stopping by, hope to hear from you again soon.

  2. I racked my brain a little bit but couldn’t think of any books I’d read to recommend! Of course, I’m sure as soon as I click “submit comment” I’ll be flooded with the memory of every winter-y book I’ve ever read 🙂 You’ll have to let us know which book you choose. I have another blogger friend who is working on reading books based on the alphabet – “A” through “Z!” Challenges like this look fun–maybe one day I’ll do one!

    Happy reading 🙂

    1. Thanks Sarah, the A to z Challenge sounds fun, who is your blogger friend? Is your friend blogging about it? I will be sure to share which book I pick and my review. Fun way to pick books might not have otherwise.

    1. Hi Michelle, what’s in a name looks like a fun one also! What I really wanted to find was a challenge where books are set in different locations. I saw the 50 state challenge whch was neat but I would rather it include international locations also. The fun is in the planning and trying, itbwill be nice to knock off some of the To Read books from Goodreads, it just ges longer and longer and longer…Any books you recommend for me for January?

      1. Oh, let’s see. There is Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor, Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater, The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey, Snow Falling on the Cedars by David Guterson, Chasing Fire by Nora Roberts. Also by Nora Roberts is Born in Fire.

        Does that help?

        1. Thanks for the recommendations Michelle! I loved The Snow Child, too bad I can’t just re-read that one (and I normally don’t care to re-read books when there are so many good ones I have not read yet). But The Snow Child was one of my favorites on many levels, I still have to write my review on it.

Both Shiver and Snow Falling on Cedars look like great options. I do want to read something with a wintry theme to it. I added them to my to-read list, I like historical fiction but sometimes you just need a good werewolf/vampire story. I will be picking your brain for good books to read throughout the challenge, if you don’t mind.
I was also thinking of reading Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See which a friend recommended to me or Silver Girl by Elin Hildebrand (although that’s not a winter themed book).

  3. This is one challenge I’m looking forward to as well. I love the idea and for me it’s just as fun spending hours (yikes) finding the perfect book 🙂

    1. I know what you mean Tanya, finding the perfect book is half the fun! Of course I probably have 12 books already from my To Read list in Goodreads that would fit the challenge. Off the top of my head, I think I have two books with Snow in the title…snow fan or snow flower maybe? fun, fun, hope to talk to you again soon. happy reading!
