Bout of Books Readathon Goals and Updates, August 2014
It was one of my August goals to throw my Superhubby a killer birthday party. Unfortunately, I am too stubborn and frugal to just pay someone to make the food and cupcakes, so I have been cooking up a storm this week and working hard on this party. My reading and blogging have taken a hit so next week I will be rewarding myself and participating in the Bout of Books Readathon. I’m looking forward to reading and relaxing more than I did this week!
In case you don’t know:
The Bout of Books readathon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 18th and runs through Sunday, August 24th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 11 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team
My goals:
1. Finish ARC of The Story Hour by Thrity Umrigar for TLC blog tour
2. Finish Emma for Austen in August, Big Book Summer Challenge and Travel the World in Books Reading Challenge.
3. Start Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows for my IRL book club and Classics Club.
4. Participate in a Twitter chat.
5. Participate in 1-2 mini challenges.
6. Read 15 books with my kids, for our goal to read 1,000 books together.
I look forward to diving into books next week and will be updating this post for my accomplishments througout the week. Next will be catching up on the reviews for all these great books I’ve been reading so we can talk about them!
Daily Updates
Monday: read 30 pages in The Story Hour and conpleted the Book Scavenger Hunt on instagram.
Tuesday: read 30 pages in The Story Hour and two books with my kids. Seriously, I think Too Many Toys by David Shannon was written about us. The boys and their daddy have more toys than I can count…I wish I had that many books! 🙂
Wednesday: I got zilch done on the reading front.
But I did:
* prepare our Travel the World in Books Readathon Announcement and Sign Ups post, emailed authors and publishers for giveaways for the Readathon. If you have a book you would like to giveaway, please sign up. If you are a blogger that would like to host a mini-challenge, you can sign up there too.
* changed my blog design, tell me one thing you like and one thing I need to improve. It’s a work in progress but I sure do have fun toying with my design.
Thursday: visited a couple Bout Of Books bloggers and read another 30 pages.
Friday: Read some more but still not finished with the book. Yikes! I am not reading enough but I am too excited working hard on our upcoming Readathon.
Saturday: Another goose egg. No pages read as we headed with family to a waterpark. Great day!
Sunday: Finished The Story Hour. At least one book completed, whew!
Have you ever participated in a readathon? Join us for the Bout of Books and sneak some more reading time in your week! Be sure to leave a link with your goals if you are participating so I can stop by!
I love that HP has been on so many lists! It is going to go on forever!

How fun that you did a scavenger hunt on IG!! I love it!
Also, I completely agree in that I WISH I had as many books as my children had toys.
This is my first BoB read a thon and its been going good. I love discovering new blogs. Good luck with the rest of the week.
Sounds like so much fun! I have always wanted to try a readathon…but this week is definitely out! Just back from 3 weeks away, and older son moves into an off-campus apartment Friday, and both boys start school next week. Super busy this week squeezing in doctor’s visits, shopping, and last visits with friends who are going away to college. Not to mention unpacking and laundry!
Definitely want to try a readathon when things settle down though. Enjoy!
Hope you are well –
Sue
Book By Book
Whew! It does sound like a hectic week. Hope you had a fabulous trip!
Well I hope you will consider joining our Travel the World in Books Readathon runs from 9/1-9/14. I still gotta get my post up to announce it but its coming! Good time to knock off a book set in another country. And there’s no rules to just read as much as you can or want to.
A read-a-thon what a fantastic idea. I should do this as well
Readathons are a lot of fun. I like trying to find ways to sneak more reading or listening to audiobooks time into my day. Hope you will join us! We have a Travel the World in Books Readathon coming up Sept 1 through 14 so mark your calendar and hope you sign up.
I desperately need to get my Bout of Books post up. Since I on;y read two books in the past two months I have ARCs that desperately need to be read. Lots of them. 🙂
Yay! Great time to catch up April. I did the Book Monsters Scavenger hunt challenge today and that was fun. I even snuck in reading 4 pages while the kids were awake. They are in bed now and time to get reading!
A read-a-thon? Yes, please. Vacation comes to an end today but I can always make time to read. 😉
Thanks for the shout out Heidi and so glad you decided to join us! What is first on your reading list? Hope you had a great vacation!
Super nice that you read with your kids! I hope to do that one day might I have children. (Belated?) Happy birthday to your husband 🙂 and good luck with BoB. Happy reading, Tanya 🙂
Thanks Jirrine! My kids and I love reading together and they love scanning and rating the books in Goodreads (though my youngest gives EVERYTHING five stars). The birthday party was fabulous and I really need this week to unwind before kids school and activities starts next week and Mom’s Taxi is on high demand 🙂 enjoy your week!
Good luck next week (and with the rest of this week)! I’m joining in too and hoping to get in some good reading since the last couple of weeks have not been that great for me.
Yea same here. Small victory, I got 4 pages read before the kids were in bed today 🙂 have a great week and thanks for stopping by Tif!
That sounds like a perfect reward to me! 🙂 Good luck with all your goals and I hope you manage to finish all your books.
See you on Twiter!
Here’s what I’ll be reading next week
Vicky
Thanks Vicky! Good luck to you too. I am a slow reader too, I am usually lucky to finish one book a week. Have a great BoB!
Have fun! I am still debating 🙂
Glad to see you joined in! Always a great week. Bummed I missed the chat today though.
sounds like some very worthwhile and fun goals! i hope your party for your husband goes well and your week relaxing and reading is productive! i’m still trying to decide if I’m participating but if not, I’ll still be cheering y’all on from the sidelines 🙂
Thanks Stacy! The party was a blast despite the birthday boy waking up with a migraine on party day. Time to crank out some reading today!
Have a fun Bout of Books!! So glad you’re participating!
