Health Goals Weekly Update February 7, 2014 #12MonthstoaHealthierYou #BookBlogWalkers
After publishing my February 2014 health goals, I found that Money Saving Mom and the Geeky Bloggers Book Blog were hosting fitness challenges with weekly check-ins to help keep us accountable and motivated. They each have linkies where we can post our goals and updates to support one another in achieving our exercise goals…one small victory at a time!
Crystal from Money Saving Mom is challenging us to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables this month in her 12 Months to a Healthier You challenge.
Update: I have been eating a spinach side salad for dinner this week and eating some fruit. I stocked up on some blueberries, bananas and clementines so I can do better next week. Not quite getting my 5 servings of fruit a day yet but I love putting blueberries or bananas on top of my cereal, cream of wheat or oatmeal in the mornings.
Felicia from The Geeky Bloggers Book Blog is continuing to host her Book Blog Walkers challenging us to walk (or do some form of exercise) for 30 minutes a day. Â My goal is to exercise 4-5 times a week.
Update:
Feb 1: Stationary bike for 32 minutes, 6.5 miles, burned 321 calories and did 1 55-second plank
Feb 2: none, Sunday, day of rest
Feb 3: Stationary bike for 40 minutes, burned 407 calories
Feb 4: Stationary bike for 50 minutes, 9.0 miles, burned 480 calories
Feb 5: I overdid it yesterday and was in pain between exercising and mommy duties so took another day of rest
Feb 6: Bathroom cleaning and mopping kitchen and bathrooms, shouldn’t that count for exercise? No extra energy left for exercise
Feb 7: After dusting/vacuuming, I’ll ride the bike today. That will accomplish my 4 days of exercise this week!

I’m just visiting your site for the first time, and I love the idea of a walking challenge. It sounds like you are doing some great things health-wise! 🙂
Thanks so much for visiting Kate! Thanks for the support too. Its hard to keep up for sure but know I need to for the long run.
I hope you will stop back by and link up to 3 family-friendly posts on my Small Victories Sunday linky.

Great job with your goals! I find that when I eat my 5-7 servings of veggies every day, everything else just kind of falls into place. I sneak ’em everything to make sure I’ve got enough!
Seems like a great week! I usually try to go to the gym 3-5 times a week, and mostly I end up doing 3, but this week I hope to do 5! I love lifting weights because then I can see my progress more easily! I love fruits and vegetables, so luckily I don’t need to remind myself to eat enough. Good luck this week!
I need to be held accountable, since I’m. In school to become a health coach. I’m going to look into some of these sites. I was very fit after my second boy, but now my baby is nursing so much and in ever seem to have enough energy to work out. Great post! I’m spreading the comment love from the SITS girls community. 🙂
I love all of the enthusiasm toward health goals. Now is the time to prevent illness and to do many things which contribute to overall health. Your kids will watch you and will help their generation as well. You go girls!
I used to eat a spinach salad every day for lunch and I felt SO good! I really noticed a difference. Thanks for the reminder of that… I think I’ll start doing it again! Also DYING to know what app you can connect with fitbit to make some $$ – if you find out more info let me know! #SITSBlogging #CommentLove
I am so bad getting myself to exercise regularly. Especially during the winter. In the spring we do lots of cycling, and luckily we live by the sea, so summer is all about swimming. Anyway, it helps to join these challenges, so you are more motivated to do your daily workout.
Glad to find your blog through SITS comment thread.
I am not rocking the health goals right now. I just have zero time without the kids. BUT, I’m going to the gym tonight and I’m signed up for 3 races, so I’m heading in the right direction!
Well isn’t this post timely! 🙂 I know, I know. You wrote it a few days ago, but last night I finally got together a plan for exercising. I’m also eating a lot healthier. As a matter of fact, I’m eating a salad right now.
Now, my motivation to do this includes being able to fit into a bridesmaid dress, but I’m hoping this healthy lifestyle will continue and become routine! 🙂
I’m visiting you from the SITS Comment Love event. Have a great week!
I love the fact that you blog about living with arthritis. I have fibromyalgia and blog a bit about it. I think it’s great that you’re making positive health goals. I have been making myself spinach smoothies. I have a recipe on my blog. Thanks for sharing! Visiting from Sits! You also have a great first name!
I enjoy kettlebells, bodyweight and interval training. Short, intense and time saving. Got find a program that makes your heart sing and has the intensity to provide long term optimal results. Visiting from Sits
I was a faithful 2x-4x walker for 20 years, but got out of the habit when I added a long commute to my workday. Now I’ve managed to shorten the commute by half, but still haven’t gotten back to the walking. Too much time on the computer, I think!
Great job! I just posted my first check-in and reading everyone’s post is motivating me to try harder!! Have a great week!
You are doing way better than I am! I can never seem to get enough exercise but hoping the move to NC will help with that. 🙂
I’m trying to find ways to incorporate more fruits and veggies into my diet.I’m such a picky eater!
I love a challenge! I’m doing the Fit Approach/ Lorna Jane Move, Nourish, Believe challenge right now. We just completed our “move” week and I’ll have a re-cap this weekend before moving onto the “nourish” week. Stopping by from SITS!
I need to start keeping track of my exercise more as well! I am hoping to get healthier this year!
I have to say I think cleaning totally can count as a workout – that can be exhausting! And good for you listening to your body – sometimes we just have to know when enough is enough. Good luck moving forward!
Those are great! I was walking about 4 times a week until this week when I had meetings Monday and Tuesday– then I got a cold that made me so tired. I need to start again tomorrow!
This is a really good idea! I like that! BookBlog Walkers sounds great! I have been doing my workouts and my Fitbit is connected to an app that gives me points for working out. It pushes me to work hard to get more points. The points = money. I am up to 31.00 I can use for stuff. I have only been using it for about a month. House work should count. Its a full workout honey! Talk about making you tired. lol
Wow, that’s great Alicia! Fitbit gives you money for points. How many points did you earn to get for $31? I used to belong to Blue Points with Blue Cross and would get gift cards for exercising. They discontinued it and I don’t think my current insurance has a rewards program like that but maybe I should check.
Yes I do believe housework should count! I count gardening – when I do it that is. I probably don’t do 5 a day but would be close I guess.
Sometimes I read if I walk on the treadmill…helps to motivate me to actually do it:)
I’ve cooked at home this week and had virtually no fast food—so that is a healthy plus! 🙂
