Lost in Books, Savvy Working Gal and I are happy to announce a Travel the World in Books Reading Challenge Event, our Poisonwood Bible Readalong coming in January! The goal of our Travel the World in Books Reading Challenge is to encourage readers to explore other cultures and countries through books. We thought it would be fun to enjoy the journey to Africa together and read a highly acclaimed and recommended book with The Poisonwood Bible.

As with our Travel the World in Books Reading Challenge, you set your own reading pace. Every week stop by our blogs and weigh in on the discussion questions we post. We’ll have a Twitter chat to wrap up the book and event on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 from 9-10pm EST.

Poisonwood Bible, set in the Belgian Congo in Africa, comes highly recommended and seems to be a favorite for those who have read it. Here’s the summary from Goodreads:

The Poisonwood Bible is a story told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan Price, a fierce, evangelical Baptist who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. They carry with them everything they believe they will need from home, but soon find that all of it — from garden seeds to Scripture — is calamitously transformed on African soil. What follows is a suspenseful epic of one family’s tragic undoing and remarkable reconstruction over the course of three decades in postcolonial Africa.
