The Poisonwood Bible Readalong, January 2015
HAPPY NEW YEAR! We hope you enjoyed a joyous and relaxing holiday season with family and friends. After the usual hustle and bustle of the holidays, it’s the perfect time to wind down with a good book. Lost in Books, Savvy Working Gal and I are so excited that our Poisonwood Bible Readalong starts today and lasts all month. Be sure to grab the book and read with us if you can or stop by when you have to discuss it with us! We thought it would be fun to kick off the year together with a great book that takes us to another corner of the world.
Just like our Travel the World in Books Reading Challenge, our readalong is no pressure. Read at your pace and come by and answer the weekly discussion questions at your leisure. We want to hear from you!
Synopsis of The Poisonwood Bible
(from Goodreads):
The Poisonwood Bible is a story told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan Price, a fierce, evangelical Baptist who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. They carry with them everything they believe they will need from home, but soon find that all of it — from garden seeds to Scripture — is calamitously transformed on African soil. What follows is a suspenseful epic of one family’s tragic undoing and remarkable reconstruction over the course of three decades in postcolonial Africa.

I’ll join in on next week’s discussion. I actually started this one last year so I think I’m already to the week 2 section. I’m so glad Lucy posted about it. I knew you had mentioned having a read-a-long. Yay!
My Winter’s Respite read-a-thon is coming at the end of the month. I’m getting ready to post the sign up over at Seasons of Reading (by Friday). I made an awesome new button too. 🙂 Hope you’ll join me!
Sweet. Glad to have you joining in Michelle! It’s my first time hosting a readalong so I appreciate any tips you want to throw our way 🙂
I would love to join Winter’s Respite! What are the dates? I love your readathons and really want to read more this year!
Sounds so interesting! Hope it’s a lot of fun and many readers participate!
Happy New Year to you Tanya! I have my book and am looking forward to the upcoming discussions! Thanks to you and your fellow co-hosts for hosting this awesome challenge!
