My Thoughts:
When I was working full time, my husband and I often referred to our lives as “survival mode” trying to keep up with our jobs, homes and our 3 energetic boys. We were just doing what we needed to to get through the day. Days quickly turned into weeks and even faster into years. Next thing we know, our oldest son is in middle school and the youngest son in preschool.
I jumped at the chance and am grateful for the opportunity to read and review an advance copy of Say Goodbye to Survival Mode by Money Saving Mom’s Crystal Paine. And boy did I need and devour this book! In an easy to read, conversational style, Crystal gives us her lows and her triumphs and the roller coaster ride in between. She gives us the lessons she learned the hard way and the encouragement to develop and pursue our own goals. She doesn’t claim to be an expert but tells us what she did to say goodbye to survival mode and lead the intentional, purposeful life that has made her happier and healthier.
Crystal gives us a glimpse at how she began her Money Saving Mom site from her need to coupon. Refusing to incur debt while her husband was in law school, Crystal began couponing and found the means to care for her young family. She eventually started the blog that would launch her career into unsuspecting avenues as an author and motivational speaker.
I like the way she analyzes each new opportunity as to whether it will help accomplish her goals. If it doesn’t, she kindly declines. She tells us how she breaks down goals into bite-sized and more manageable pieces. Keeping our eyes on the prize, without getting too overwhelmed. She helped me figure out my own goals for 2014. I’ve been working hard on these goals, especially the ones for my health.
She covers all sorts of topics vital to a mom’s life. I found the chapters about goal setting, decluttering and simplifying, exercising, time wasters and frugal ways to give back to be particularly useful. I adore organizing printables and checklists and she’s got some great ones in the book and on her website that I will continue to use. She also provides a list of recommended reading, books that inspired and helped her. I will certainly be checking some of them out.
I can’t recommend this book highly enough and if you get it, hope you find it as useful as I have. Ready to say goodbye to survival mode? Check out the book’s website for some great giveaways this week!

I’ve heard such good things about this book and I follow her website as well. It has been on my “To read list” so I need to do that sooner rather than later!
I highly recommend it. Crystal certainly lit a fire under me to getting my goals down and work towards them. It feels good to find more focus being that I am very scatter brained as it is.
Great review – thanks! I just saw this book the other day and was wondering if it was any good! Perfect timing! 🙂
