Mom’s Summer Camp is in full swing and the boys and I were busy this week crossing some items off our Summer Bucket List (with a FREE printable for you too). We made homemade popsicles, invaded a trampoline park with some friends, got a little farther with swim lessons, enjoyed a Chemistry demonstration at the library for their summer reading program and signed up for some volunteering. I always feel like I need new ideas to keep food and fun fresh for my active boys. Thank goodness there are so many wonderfully creative and delicious ideas shared at here at Small Victories Sunday Linkup.
Our bloggers offer their best posts to inspire you to read, eat, live, create and blog well! Bring us your best summer fun, food, books, home, blog and travel ideas. My Small Victories
Every week, I like to reflect on my small victories, finding gratitude and joy in everyday life is important to me in my battle with chronic illness. Life is too short to be overwhelmed or feel victimized by what I can’t do. I’d rather focus on what I CAN do!
My blog is inspiring me to happily immerse myself in the island experience this week. I’m reading Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Society* which is a unique book written in the form of letters between the characters (kind of like Where’d You Go, Bernadette?* did) during the German occupation of Guersney during WWII. It’s a charming and easy read so far. A roast pig plays a pivotal moment in the book and it reminded me I needed to make my Tostones with Mojo (Fried Green Plantains with Cilantro-Garlic sauce). I took some new pictures and added some tips and tricks to make it even easier to make. I hope you’ll give it a try when you are in the mood for some Caribbean flair.
On the home front, my boys are using habit trackers I learned from bullet journaling as their chore charts to earn an allowance. I love being able to refer them to their charts instead of nagging them endlessly about what they need to do next. The charts worked really well last summer as they have to finish everything on the list before they can even ASK me for screen time. Most of the time we are so busy, that they don’t get screen time until I start to make dinner (which is just fine by me). They are working independently and motivated to get their boxes checked off so they can earn their allowance. They stole some of my favorite pens* in the process but it is a small price to pay! And who am I kidding, it just gives me an excuse to buy more!
What are your small victories? Don’t be shy! Share your small victories, supporting and empowering each other is what I’m all about! Negativity and judgment is not welcome here!
