My Weekly Recap
I FINISHED The House of the Spirits…finally! When we announced the readalong, most people who responded RAVED about this book. I’m kind of meh about it. Parts were beautifully written and then I agonized through others. I’m still trying to decide about this one, so for now it ends up with an average 3* rating cause I liked it but didn’t love it. I do want to discuss with everyone so hopefully can post some discussion questions soon here on the blog and in our Travel the World in Books Goodreads group (join us there too).
Did I tell you I’ve started to listening to audiobooks again? Or that I am completely OBSESSED with my planner/bullet journal (follow me on Instagram if you’re a planner addict too)? Now that youngest is in school, it’s eerily quiet in the house. So to help me be productive during the day, I was listening to these two audiobooks I borrowed on the Overdrive app from our library. As a planner addict, Procrastinate on Purpose is just not going to work for me though I see how it’s beneficial to those who are better at figuring out how long a task will take them. Thrive was filled with stories from Arianna’s life and I loved hearing about her Greek mother and upbringing.
Once I finished the productivity books, I started listening to The Night Circus on audiobook. I was beyond stoked when I realized the narrator’s voice was the narrator from Pushing Daisies, one of my oldest son’s and my favorite TV shows. Jim Dale has a fantastic voice that lends itself perfectly to the mystery and magic of this tale. Even though it’s available from the library on my Kindle, I really just want to keep listening to him tell the story. So far I love the story and the writing too, The Night Circus is on track for being one of my favorites!
Christmas, Actually is a short story collection about well, Christmas. Reading for a review and love getting in the holiday spirit early. Maybe this will help me start my Christmas shopping so I’m not waiting till the last minute.
I’m giving away 2 copies of The Wife, The Maid and The Mistress, a great historical mystery set in the glamour and turmoil of mafia era NYC. Enter to win one of 2 hardcover copies now (ends 9/30/15)!
It’s been slow on the blogging front since I’ve been working on some behind the scenes things, like updating images for Pinterest and participating in some fabulous Facebook groups to help blog engagement.
