Blurb:
Who Do You Love by Jennifer Weiner is a story about the power and passion of first love that is a bit predictable. Romance and chick-lit fans may enjoy this book.
Synopsis from Goodreads:
“Rachel Blum and Andy Landis are eight years old when they meet late one night in an ER waiting room. Born with a congenital heart defect, Rachel is a veteran of hospitals, and she’s intrigued by the boy who shows up all alone with a broken arm. He tells her his name. She tells him a story. After Andy’s taken back to the emergency room and Rachel’s sent back to her bed, they think they’ll never see each other again.
Rachel, the beloved, popular, and protected daughter of two doting parents, grows up wanting for nothing in a fancy Florida suburb. Andy grows up poor in Philadelphia with a single mom and a rare talent that will let him become one of the best runners of his generation.
Over the course of three decades, through high school and college, marriages and divorces, from the pinnacles of victory and the heartbreak of defeat, Andy and Rachel will find each other again and again, until they are finally given a chance to decide whether love can surmount difference and distance and if they’ve been running toward each other all along.
With honesty, wit, and clear-eyed observations about men and women, love and fate, and the truth about happy endings, Jennifer Weiner delivers two of her most memorable characters, and a love story you’ll never forget.”
My Thoughts:
Who Do You Love by Jennifer Weiner reminds us about the power and passion us the first time we fall in love, the kind we never forget. Andy and Rachel meet as children in the most unique of circumstances. With a bad heart, Rachel has an extended stay in the hospital and going through life-changing experiences for an 8 year-old when she meets Andy, who comes into the hospital with a broken arm and no parent accompanying him.
The beginning of this book was sweet, tender and emotional with the friendships Rachel develops in the hospital. It brings the reader high hopes for the rest of the story and what develops between Andy and Rachel.
But to say Andy and Rachel’s relationship is a hormonal roller coaster is putting it lightly. Andy and Rachel are volatile characters full of their own drama on their own and together their relationship keeps self-destructing. The story drags in some places and in some places, you just want to shake some sense into the characters (ok, maybe that’s just me as the mom of a teenage boy).

I love her. I have read most of her books.
Just picked up “All Fall Down” at a book consignment store.
I have always enjoyed Jennifer Werners books. This one sounds really good too. I will add it to my list. I actually ended up marrying my first love. There was just something about him. =) Thanks for linking up with Mommy Monday Blog HOp

Oh my goodness such a long story re: my first love! The extremely short version is it took him a long time to figure out his true self (and the fact that he is gay), it took mr a longer than necessary time to accept it. In between he married a lovely woman with whom he has six kids. We are now the best of friends; the world wouldn’t be the same if these six loved children had not been brought into the world. What I thought was heartbreak at 19 turned out to be one of the biggest (and most positive) lessons I’ve EVER learned. I enjoyed your review and appreciate its candor.
Sounds like real life! LOL
I have been eyeing this book but have been reluctant to pick it up. Now I’m curious! Thank you so much for the review, I’ll definitely be checking it out real soon.
Can’t wait to read this. She is one of my favorite authors.
